How to understand Wang Anshi's theory of "the nature of emotion"?
Wang Anshi's
theory on the use of natural feelings: firstly, the undeveloped heart is the
sex, and the already developed heart is the emotion, and the "temperament
is also". Love as the publication of sex, if "forget desire"
"waste love", the sex itself will not be able to show,
only the result of ruthless grass and wood stone can be good.
The second is that good
and evil depend on social evaluation. As far as sex is concerned, it has
nothing to do with good and evil. Good and evil are people's evaluation of
whether the happiness, anger, sorrow and joy from outside accord with the
social value system, while the criterion for judging good and evil lies in
people's benevolence, justice and moral norms. That good and evil are socially
formed, not innate. At the same time, social moral evaluation is meaningful
only when it is directed at specific emotional activities
Third, good and evil are
caused by habit. Wang Anshi also combines Confucius's
"similarity of nature" with "distance of learning", but his
focus is on "learning". Wang Anshi not only
emphasizes the acquired nature of good and evil acts, but also highlights the
variability of judgment of good and evil. He evaluates people not for a while
but for the whole life. In the history of Chinese human nature theory, Wang Anshi defined the nature with distinct and consistent
viewpoints, which is of great significance.
What kind of theory is Zhang Zai's "changing temperament"?
The key point of Zhang Zai's theory of human nature lies in "changing
temperament". He believed that the good is not only that people follow the
way of heaven, but that the way can be reflected in their own moral practice is
sex. Although people are not born into the nature, "the nature is not into
the mix of good and evil." The so-called "following good into
nature" is actually a process of transforming good and evil into a mixture
by manpower.
Zhang Zai
puts forward the problem of mixing good and evil in the absence of sex,
explaining that there are two possibilities for the development of human nature
to develop towards good and evil, and the focus is on the acquired moral
creation. That is, only in this diligence and indefatigable, can we expect to
achieve good. "Good and anti-evil" is actually the elimination of
evil. The nature of temperament is a mixture of good and evil, but people can
remove evil and get rid of evil by learning the time of kindness and rebellion.
The relationship between
the nature of heaven and earth and the nature of temperament is, in the final
analysis, one of wholeness and partial. Whether it is "good and anti"
or "changing temperament", it does not negate the existence of
temperament materially in terms of the value of qi. Temperament is the basis of
human nature. To deny temperament is to deny human existence itself, so it is
impossible. The completion of the changing temperament means the perfect unity
of the inner value experience and the outer ritual.
