Phenomenon and thing in itself

Kant through his "Copernicus revolution" to solve the problem of the universal necessity of scientific knowledge, he thinks not knowledge must conform to the object, but the objects must conform to the body's innate know form, thus proves the scientific knowledge in the form of apriorism universal inevitability, but if the object must conform to the rational form of innate knowledge, That means that the object actually has two characters: one is "as it is", that is, "apparent"; the other is "as it is", that is, "the thing itself". We can only know the appearance of things and cannot know things in themselves.

A priori comprehensive judgment

According to Kant, knowledge consists of judgments, which can be divided into two broad categories: analytical judgments and synthetic judgments. Analytical judgment is because its object words are extracted from the subject words, and cannot bring us new knowledge. The object words in the comprehensive judgment are added to the subject words later through experience, which can bring us new knowledge. However, scientific knowledge must have universal inevitability, that is, congenital, so the comprehensive judgment can be divided into "acquired comprehensive judgment" and "innate comprehensive judgment", and only the "innate comprehensive judgment" is scientific knowledge. Therefore, the core task of transcendental philosophy is to solve the problem of "how is a priori comprehensive judgment possible".

A transcendental illusion

According to Kant, reason is different from understanding, and its function is "adjustment". It has nothing to do with experience but only with knowledge, and its function is only to guide knowledge to further improve and adjust knowledge into systems. They are only tools for adjusting knowledge rather than objects of knowledge. However, because human reason is determined to ask what is the ground behind experience, it makes the mistake of "ideal unity" of the idea as "reality unity", and thus falls into "transcendental illusion".
